The temperature rose in Coral Springs, FL this week as Five-Star came to town for our 3rd annual Super Session.  This is our first of four nationwide Super Sessions this summer; where attempt to bring some of the most promising and talented players from the region in to learn and compete at the highest level.

This sessions talent is some of the best that Florida and the south region has to offer; each showing the ability and promise to play at the next level.

Our standout player thus far has been Dwayne Bacon (Rising Junior- IMG Academy) who had officially received offers from FSU, Louisville, Texas, Tennessee and Oklahoma State; with interest also coming from at least another 15 High Major Schools; Harold Givens (Class 2014- Faith Baptist, 6’8) who has reclassified and is looking for new offers as a 2014 graduate. Harold has spent most of his summer months playing AAU with Team Breakdown and coach Gillion. He has shown his versatility as a Wing/Forward, being able to handle the ball, shoot from the outside and still possess the athletic ability to play down low and rebound. Coaches this week have been impressed with his play and is a top contender for the coveted Most Outstanding Player award.

As for league play this week we had some great games and competition.  Two teams have stood out thus far. Both the Bulls and Spurs are undefeated after two days of gameplay and the Situation Tournament. The Bulls are leading the East division with, Harold Givens and sharpshooter, Enrique Lafuente (Gulliver Prep).  The Spurs are first in the West division lead by, a Five-Star regular,Melvin Brooks (Cardinal Gibbons) and Lawerence Barnes (Coral Springs Christian). After four games the Standings are as follows:

EAST

  1. Bulls
  2. Knicks
  3. Heat

The first day of the second Florida Session at UCF turned in over 100 campers. The competition was jam-packed and the campers came out of the gate looking to prove themselves. There was very little room for error in the try-out games night one.  We saw that the kids had come to camp with a will to play hard every second they were here, and so far they have brought it to every station, drill and game they have played.

(Station Pics Seen Below)

ImageImage

The early favorite in the NBA division seems to be the Lakers who have ran through every team they have played.  Led by Philip Webb and Enrique LaFuente, a duo that has yet to be stopped in this short regular season. We will see what happens as the season progresses and we move closer to the playoffs and seeding.  As it usually does here at Five-Star seeding could be decided by our Situation Tournament.

A special treat we do have at this camp is our very own strength & conditioning coach, Nick Couluris, all the way from the Five-Star Office in New York.  He has ran station 14 and really given these kids a workout.  They have learned multiple drills, stretches and workouts that they will be able to take home with them; that way they will continue to be able to work on their agility, speed and quickness.

Each camper has so far been “all-in” as we like to call it at Five-Star; making sure that each second on the court is not wasted, and each time they leave the hardwood they take something away from their experience.

Some notable players to look out for so far:

Enrique LaFuente 2014 Gulliver Prep 6′

Marc Chasin 2014 Gulliver Prep 6’3

Byron Samuel 2014 Hallandale High School 5’6

Dante Disipio 2015 George Jenkins HS 6’8

Dwayne Frazier 2016 Everglades HS 6’3

Five-Star UCF opened up promising to be one of the more talent laden sessions of the 2013 summer and its only mid-June. Led by 2015 stand-out Dwayne Bacon, Corey Sanders and the rest of their FL Showtime teammates; with key additions from the ATL Celtics and Florida’s own, Team Breakdown this week has high expectations. Five-Star’s reputation of the world’s top basketball instructional programs has also spread internationally with an international player number up over 30 campers for this one session. With the session nearing 150 campers, talent wasn’t hard to find.
