Day 3 at camp brought more stations, playoffs and a challenge by Spain in the popular Fast Break Station. The Orange vs White Fast Break Station was played yesterday with all the campers mixed, but the Spaniards wanted to test their talent against the United States campers and the coaching staff obliged.
It became an instant classic with the lead changing back and forth throughout the contest. For those not familiar with our Fast Break Station originated by Five-Star legend Howard Garfinkel, each team plays offense and defense for up to 30 minutes. Points are awarded for scoring, rebounding, block shots , matchups, charges, steals, etc. Spain started on offense and the Americans on defense. At the half Spain’s lead was 8 points. Both teams playfully chanted back and forth throughout the contest. Then the Americans took to the offense while Spain played defense. The Americans took the lead but Spain tied it up with a huge charge call within the last few seconds. A timeout was called to set up strategy by both sides. Each team put out their three best players and just as time was about to expire DArmond Player ( Hemingway HS, SC) swished a 2 point basket to give USA a 112-110 win over Spain.
